In September 2020, Marlboro Electric Cooperative Inc. (MEC) and Pee Dee Electric Cooperative announced our partnership. We made this strategic move with the goal of aligning our two co-ops to create economic benefits, develop long-term efficiencies and offer overall improved service for our members.
Together, we serve 15% of South Carolina’s counties. As local flowers bloom and the days grow longer and hotter, we continue to focus on ways to help our valued members. This summer, when power use is typically the highest, we are reducing residential energy rates by 10%. I am pleased our combined strength has allowed us to provide this discount when it matters most.
This 10% rate decrease follows an 8% decrease provided to MEC members during December 2020 and January and February 2021. It is the largest-known rate decrease in history for the two electric cooperatives, as well as any other South Carolina electric utility this decade.
This partnership between our two neighboring co-ops has resulted in the largest geographical territory of any commonly managed cooperative in this state. We are proud of what we have achieved thus far, and look forward to continued efficiencies and enhancements in the future.
On behalf of the MEC Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to share with you this wonderful news. While it would be easy to point out the many ways our team has worked hard to lower your rates, we all know that putting God first is the main reason for our continued success.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
God bless you and your family.
