MEC Members to See an 8% Decrease on March Bills
Bennettsville, SC – March 16, 2020 – Marlboro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MEC) announces an 8% rate decrease to its residential members for the month of March. Members will see this decrease on their March bill.
“We realize that some members may be facing unusual hardships due to the coronavirus outbreak and it is our hope that this March rate decrease will help ease some of their burden” Chairman of the MEC Board of Trustees Bo McInnis said.
This announcement comes a day after MEC declared they would be suspending disconnects for nonpayment effective immediately. In the same statement, officials noted that while disconnects for nonpayment have been suspended, balances will not be forgiven, and late fees will still apply. MEC urges members to pay what they can to avoid building up large balances that will be harder to pay off later.
“We are doing everything we can to help our members and employees stay safe during this uncertain time,” MEC president and CEO William L. Fleming Jr. says. “I know in my heart that through cooperation and lots of prayer, we can all get through this together.”
