Marlboro Electric Cooperative Provides Another Rate Decrease
MEC Members to See 8% Discount on April Bills
Bennettsville, SC – April 8, 2020 – Marlboro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MEC) announces it is providing another 8% rate decrease to its residential members for the month of April. Members will see this decrease as a line item on their April electric bill.
Bo McInnis, Chairman of the MEC Board of Trustees, echoed last month’s statement, noting “We recognize that some members are facing unexpected difficulties due to the coronavirus outbreak, and it is our hope that this additional rate decrease will help ease some of that strain.”
As previously noted, on March 15, MEC also suspended disconnects for nonpayment. However, the balances and late fees still apply. MEC continues to urge members to pay what they can and stay current on their power bills to avoid accruing large balances that will be more difficult to pay off later.
“MEC has lowered rates in total for 7-years in a row now, and in a time of seemingly consistent bad news, it is important to likewise recognize what Good News this season, and the week of Easter, also brings ,” stated MEC president and CEO William Fleming. “We are continuing to do everything we can to help our members, while concurrently keeping their safety and that of our employees as a top priority. This rate decrease is yet another way for our Board and cooperative to demonstrate to our members that we strive to outperform their expectations and are with them during all times, the good and the bad.”
